Jasion EB7 = $Value$

I recently had the pleasure of riding an e-bike that’s as powerful and feature-rich as it is affordable. From its hidden, easily accessible battery to a user-friendly control interface, the Jasion EB7 is designed to elevate your biking experience, while staying on a budget. Let’s dive into the details and see why I think this electric bike is ideal for anyone looking to get their first electric bicycle.

Does the Jasion EB7 Fold?

You bet it does! The Jasion EB7 features an easy-to-fold folding function that is simple to use. When folded, the dimensions are 36 x 21 x 29 inches.

The folding process involves unhinging and collapsing the frame, folding down the handlebars, and pedals, and removing the seat and seat post. This folding design allows for easy storage and transport without sacrificing the bike’s performance capabilities.

Where is the Battery on the Jasion EB7?

Hidden within the frame and easily accessible when folded, the 48V 10Ah lithium-ion battery pack provides 480-watt-hours of juice while being incredibly convenient.

I also enjoy how easily the battery slides in and out of the frame, making it easy to remove for charging or safekeeping. This removable design also allows me to charge the battery separately from the bike, giving me more flexibility in my charging routine

Safety-wise: It’s also reassuring to know that the battery uses high-quality Samsung SDI cells and holds UL 2271 international certification, ensuring both performance and safety.

Control Buttons

The Jasion EB7 electric bike features a user-friendly control interface located on the left handlebar. The control panel consists of four main buttons: power, plus (+), minus (-), and mode. The power button turns the bike on and off, while the plus and minus buttons sift through all five pedal assist levels, ranging from 0 to 5.

Pressing and holding the plus button activates the e-bike’s headlight while holding both the plus and minus buttons simultaneously for a few seconds allows access to the bike’s settings menu, where riders can adjust various parameters such as backlight brightness, unit of measurement (miles or kilometers), and trip meter reset.

How is the LCD on the Jasion EB7?

If I had to sum it up in one word; great! The large, bright, easy-to-read screen shows just enough information to not be distracting. Crucial data such as current speed, battery charge level, pedal assist mode, and distance traveled. It is really user-friendly and the legibility is out of this world. You can read it in direct sunlight, shade, and even with polarized glasses (which can sometimes be an issue on lower-quality LCDs).

The display is conveniently positioned directly in the middle of the handlebars making for easy viewing while riding. Additionally, the LCD has a USB port underneath so you can charge your smartphone on the go, adding to the bike’s practicality.

Where is the Motor and how Powerful is it?

The Jasion EB7 features a rear hub motor in the back wheel of the bike that dishes out about 50Nm of torque. It’s Jasion-branded and designed with a sine wave structure, allowing for smooth speed control across the bike’s five pedal assist levels.

As for its power, the motor dishes out an impressive 850 watts of peak output. This was plenty enough for me (weighing in at 190 lbs) to conquer hills in and around the Seattle-area with ease.

It’s also worth noting that the motor’s performance has been internationally certified according to ISO 2849 standards, ensuring its quality and reliability.

What Can You Do with a Throttle on an E-Bike?

Doing throttle donuts on an e-bike is an exhilarating experience that combines the raw power of the motor with the rider’s skill and daring. And, the Jasion EB7 does not disappoint in this realm. Simply, tilt the bike down with the throttle handgrip facing up, twist the throttle with your left hand, and hold onto the seat with your right. Presto. You’re doing throttle donuts!

Jasion EB7 Boxed / Unboxed

Unboxing the EB7 is a straightforward process that reveals a well-packaged, well-zip-tied ;), and partially assembled e-bike. Upon opening the box, you’ll find the main frame of the bike folded and securely wrapped in protective materials.

The package includes all necessary components such as the front wheel, seat, pedals, battery, charger, and a toolkit for assembly. As you remove the bike from the box, you’ll notice that most of the major components are already in place, minimizing the assembly required.

Overall, the unboxing process sets the stage for a quick and easy assembly, allowing riders to get their Jasion EB7 ready for its first ride with minimal effort.

Recommended Rider Height and Payload Capacity

Another thing I like is that the Jasion EB7 is designed to accommodate a wide range of riders. The step-“over” model, which I am riding, accommodates riders with heights ranging from 5’2″ to 6’2,” while the EB7 ST (or, step-“through”) version extends the low-end range even further, accommodating riders from 4’5″ to 6’2″.

This broader height range for the ST model makes it particularly suitable for shorter riders or those who prefer a lower, more accessible frame. Both versions of the EB7 boast an impressive total payload capacity of 350 lbs, which includes the rider and any cargo. This substantial weight limit ensures that the bike can comfortably and safely carry most adult riders along with additional gear or groceries.

How much does the Jasion EB7 Weigh?

While not the heaviest e-bike on the market, the Jasion EB7 does have a total weight of 59.5 lbs. However, the weight placement feels nice and low thanks to the hub motor and battery being located relatively low to the ground. This weight is not unusual for an e-bike with such powerful components and full-suspension system.

It has Dual Suspension?

You heard that right! The Jasion EB7 electric bike features a comprehensive suspension system. Up front, the e-bike is equipped with an adjustable front fork that absorbs shocks and smooths out uneven surfaces. The rear suspension consists of a central shock absorber mounted between the frame and the rear wheel.

The suspension system, combined with the bike’s larger 20″ x 3″ wide tires, makes for a downright comfortable ride with plenty of stability and control, especially when navigating urban obstacles or light off-road trails.

What about the Shimano Shifters?

The EB7 is equipped with a Shimano 7-speed shifter, which is a pretty standard system for a lot of e-bikes on the market today. The Shimano shifter, located on the right handlebar, cycles through the gears with thumb and finger levers.

When combined with the e-bike’s electric motor, this shifting system optimizes pedaling effort, conserves battery power, and maintains comfortable cadences on hills. The ease of shifting gears adds to the EB7’s overall user-friendly design, making it suitable for those new to e-bikes.

Night-Riding is a Go! Headlight

The Jasion EB7 electric bike comes equipped with an integrated headlight. This bright LED headlight is mounted on the front of the bike and can be easily activated using the control panel on the handlebars. The headlight provides ample illumination for night riding or low-light conditions, allowing riders to see the path ahead clearly and be seen by others. Its integration with the bike’s electrical system means it draws power directly from the main battery, so keep in mind that it will drain the battery.

Our EB7 Range Test Revealed…

For the range test on this e-bike, I did a 20-mile circuit with 600 feet of elevation gain. At the end, I was quite surprised to see that I still had 42% battery left, meaning I could have traveled close to 35 miles on one charge. Please note that range always depends on factors such as terrain, rider weight, and assist level used. I mainly stayed in PAS 2, 3, and 4.

The battery’s capacity strikes a balance between providing sufficient range for most commutes and recreational rides while keeping the overall weight of the bike manageable. It’s worth noting that real-world range may vary based on riding conditions, with some users reporting actual ranges closer to the lower end of the stated estimates.
