Rockin’ a Banana Seat like it’s 1989!
Measuring a generous 23 by 8.5 inches, the seat on the Addmotor M66 is great for longer rides. Its ample size allows for a relaxed seating position and the padding is plush, yet firm, and helps distribute weight evenly.
What’s more, the saddle not only benefits solo riding but can also accommodate an extra passenger, making it an option for couples or friends who want to enjoy a ride together. This adds a social aspect to your biking experience, allowing you to share adventures while cruising around town.
Does the M66 have a Difficult Pedaling Position? – you decide
This bike also has a reputation for having a difficult pedaling position, but that’s a common characteristic for moped-style e-bikes. These bikes are designed to prioritize a laid-back riding style, which can sometimes lead to a less ergonomic pedaling position.
Having this said, I feel really good pedaling the Addmotor M66. I feel like I can pedal it all day, but, in all honesty, if you’re getting a moped-style e-bike, you really just want to hit that throttle:
Throttle vs. Pedal Assist (PAS) on the M66
The Addmotor M66 is equipped with a throttle that provides riders with 100% of the motor’s power at all times. This means that when you engage the throttle, no matter what PAS-level you’re in, you get all of the acceleration at once, which really is what moped-style e-bikes are really all about.
However, if you’re looking for a more traditional cycling experience or want to conserve battery life, the M66 also offers seven levels of pedal assist the is controlled by a 12 magnet cadence sensor.
Those who enjoy the thrill of instant power can rely on the throttle, while those who prefer a little workout can opt for the pedal assist. This dual functionality enhances the riding experience, allowing you to switch seamlessly between modes.
What is the PAS/Top Speed of the M66?
PAS – Pedal Assist Level | Top Speed |
1 | 8mph |
2 | 12mph |
3 | 12mph |
4 | 15mph |
5 | 19mph |
6 | 20mph |
7 | 23mph |
Can you Pedal the M66 without electricity? – Yes
Now, let’s test the Shimano shifter with no pedal assist to see how easy it is to pedal if you run out of battery.
We’re in mechanical gear 1, and yeah, on flat ground, it’s manageable. I’ll try riding it through the grass. Even though it’s a heavy bike, you’re able to pedal it without any electrical assistance. Let me go up to gear 3—now you’re starting to get a workout... Let’s get back to the electricity.
Speaking of electricity, we’re 6.5 miles in, and we just dropped to 80% battery.
Addmotor M66 HAS a Foot Rest
Before we continue, let’s take a moment to appreciate the footrest. It’s large enough to fit my size 11 feet comfortably, made from durable plastic, and it even feels pretty sturdy. The footrest offers a good spot to relax your legs while cruising. Though you can pedal, most moped-style e-bikes focus more on using the throttle. The footrest helps make throttle riding more comfortable. It’s a simple feature, but it I think it’s genuinely fun.
How many horns does the Addmotor M66 Have? -Two?
And, if you look at the handlebars, you’ll notice an impressive feature: not one, but two horns! The horns produce a loud, clear sound that cuts through ambient noise effectively to notify of your presence. This feature is especially beneficial on multi-use trails, like I like to use.
Unboxing the Addmotor M66
Unboxing the Addmotor M66 is an exciting experience, revealing the sleek, stylish design of this moped-style e-bike. The bike arrives quickly and well-packaged, with protective foam and multiple zip ties securing everything in place. After cutting open the box you’ll instantly notice its cool-looking frame, fat tires, and chopper-like handlebars. The attention to detail is apparent, from the neatly tucked cables to the large, comfortable seat. Assembly is minimal—just attach the handlebars, pedals, and mirrors, and you’ll be ready to hit the road!
Can the Addmotor M66 handle packed sand? -Yes!
The Addmotor M66 is built to handle packed sand with ease, thanks to its 4-inch-wide fat tires. The wide contact patch of these tires allows the bike to glide over packed sand without sinking in. Paired with its 750W rear hub motor and front suspension, the M66 delivers smooth, controlled performance great for sandy terrain.
Turn Signals on an E-Bike? -You Bet!
The Addmotor M66 is equipped with turn signals for added safety, a rare feature on many e-bikes. Both blink brightly but are most visible in low-light conditions. In daylight, you can’t notice them very well.
When you pull the brake lever, the rear brake lights automatically illuminate, alerting those behind you that you’re slowing down. This combination of signals and brake lights adds a layer of safety to your urban commuting and trail riding safety.
Addmotor M66 Display – Real-Time Data at Your Fingertips
Now, let’s talk about the LCD. This easy-to-read screen is packed with just the essential information you need for your ride. At the top-left, you’ll find your battery capacity. To the right, there’s your trip odometer to track how far you’ve traveled on your current ride.
By short-pressing the power button you cycle through your current, average, and maximum speed. Towards the bottom of the display, you’ll find the wattage output, showing how much energy the motor is drawing as you ride. Additionally, the display has seven levels of pedal assist, letting you customize the power boost to match your needs. Albeit somewhat basic, the Addmotor M66’s LCD ensures you’re always in control of your ride.
How about the Brakes on the M66?
Now that we’ve explored the LCD, let’s dive into the braking system. The Addmotor M66 is equipped with Tektro Aries mechanical disc brakes, known for their reliability and stopping power. These brakes feature large 180mm rotors, which provide ample surface area for heat dissipation, ensuring consistent braking performance.
The Tektro Aries calipers give you smooth and controlled braking, whether you’re navigating urban streets or off-road trails. The four-finger brake levers are padded for comfort and ergonomically designed, offering a solid grip that reduces hand fatigue.
With mechanical disc brakes, you also benefit from lower maintenance compared to hydraulic systems, while still getting excellent stopping power.
Can the M66 Handle Rocky Beaches? -Yes!
While we’re here, let’s try out some rocky beach terrain and see how the Addmotor M66 handles the challenge. Thanks to its beefy build, the M66 is well-equipped for rugged environments like this. The bike’s 4-inch-wide Chao Yang fat tires, with their deep treads, provide good grip on uneven, rocky surfaces. These tires help distribute weight evenly, reducing the chances of slipping or losing control.
The Addmotor M66 has front suspension ONLY
The front suspension fork also smooths out the ride as it absorbs impacts from bumps and uneven ground. With 80mm of travel, the suspension reduces jarring riding effects, keeping your hands and body more comfortable.
And, despite the lack of rear suspension, the M66’s geometry and cushioned seat help mitigate impact on your body from rough terrain.
Sturdy Kickstand: Reliable Support for Any Terrain
The Addmotor M66 comes equipped with a sturdy, well-designed kickstand, which adds a layer of practicality. Unlike flimsy or narrow kickstands, this one is solidly constructed to support the M66’s heavier frame and fat tires. It provides excellent stability and ensures the bike stays upright, even on uneven surfaces like gravel, grass, or soft dirt.
The kickstand is also easy to deploy and retract, and doesn’t interfere with your pedaling or riding experience. Whether stopping to take in the scenery or parking in an urban area, the kickstand holds the M66 securely in place.
We’re 11.5 miles in and still showing 80% battery—pretty good considering how much this bike weighs.
These handlebars feel like chopper handlebars
Designed with a wider grip and a slight rise, the handlebars allow for a relaxed riding position, reducing strain. The ergonomic design also promotes a natural wrist angle, making it easier to maneuver the bike.
The handlebars are also equipped with easy-to-reach controls, including the throttle, brake levers, and turn signals; all positioned well for maximum convenience. Additionally, the chopper-style handlebars contribute to the M66’s unique look, giving it a bold and stylish presence on the road.
Who is the Addmotor M66 For?
The M66 is designed for people who crave adventure, fun, and, most importantly… style. It’s also perfect for casual riders who appreciate the blend of style and functionality. The bike’s sleek lines, vibrant colors, and retro-inspired design make it an eye-catching option for anyone looking to make a statement.
Moreover, the M66 appeals to both seasoned e-bike enthusiasts and newcomers. Its user-friendly features, such as the LCD, pedal assist, and comfortable saddle, make it accessible for riders of all skill levels. Whether you’re a college student, a young professional, or a retiree seeking leisurely rides, the M66 is a great option.
We’re 15.5 miles in and just dropped to 60% battery, so the range is doing pretty well. I’ve been on throttle and pedal assist the whole time, and I’ve been charging my phone. We’re probably right around 75% or 70% battery at 15.75 miles in.
What I Like and Don’t Like about the Addmotor M66
Now, let me share some things I like and maybe don’t like about the Addmotor M66. For one, I love how stylish it is. If you’re looking for a Super73 but don’t want to spend the money, the M66 is a few hundred dollars cheaper.
Other things I like include the handlebars and the 180mm brakes, which are plenty to stop this beast. Things I don’t like. It’s not very compact, but I’ll show you in a minute how easy it is to get it into the back of your car. I didn’t really care for the top speed of 23 mph—I think it could have been higher. I also like the footrests and the fenders—they’re totally metal and quiet. This might be one of the best value low-style e-bikes on the market.
Now, let me share some things I like and maybe don’t like about the Addmotor M66. For one, I love how stylish it is. The sleek design and retro aesthetics give it a unique character. And, if you’re looking for a Super73 but don’t want to spend the extra money, the M66 is priced at $1,799 right now.
We’re 19.75 miles in and we’re showing three battery bars—around 60% remaining.
Addmotor M66 20 Mile Range Test Results:
After using the voltmeter I found that we used 45% of the battery while traveling exactly 20.6 miles. This 20 mile test ride included moderate elevation gain and incorporated pedal assist, which contributed to the overall performance. The data suggests an estimated range of ~47 to 50 miles on a full charge.
In real-world scenarios, various factors influence battery consumption, such as riding speed, rider weight, and conditions like wind and temperature. However, the M66’s performance during this test ride suggests that it can handle daily commutes or longer excursions with ease.
